Integrated Pelvis

Manual Therapy Class, with Holly Krebs, Certified Rolfer™

Understand how all of the tissues in the pelvis work together . . . and learn how to work with all these tissues!

Explore an integrated, 3D approach to the pelvis and all its parts – bones, joints, fascia, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, organs, and more!

All of these structures contribute to pelvic alignment, movement, and comfort, but most manual therapies only work with muscles and bones.

Organs, nerves, and blood vessels are suspended in fascia that connects to bones and muscles. When these tissues get stuck, twisted, or compressed, they can change pelvic alignment, restrict movement, and cause pain.

In this class, students will learn a multi-systems approach to perceive, differentiate, organize, and integrate the complete collection of structures that comprise the human pelvis. They will learn how to mobilize specific structures, while also organizing their relationships with other pelvic tissues and pelvic movement.

This integrated approach allows practitioners to expand their perspective and provide more holistic and comprehensive treatments that can reduce pain and improve mobility.

In this class, we will study these components of the pelvis:

  • The shapes and parts of the pelvic bones, sacrum, and coccyx

  • The joints and ligaments of the pelvis, including hip sockets, pubic joint, SI joints, and lower lumbars

  • How the pelvic bones and joints work together to align the pelvis, bear weight, and walk

  • The lumbar and sacral plexus nerves, their spinal roots, and their relationships to organs

  • The relationships of the iliopsoas, lateral rotators, and gluteal muscles to the pelvic bones, nerves, vessels, and organs

  • Pathways of the pelvic nerves, including the sciatic, superior gluteal, and femoral nerves

  • Pathways of the femoral arteries, veins, and lymph vessels

  • The relationships of the bladder to the pubic bone. the rectum to the sacrum and coccyx, and the colon to the wings of the pelvis and nerves of the legs

  • And more!

The manual practices in this class will include:

  • Assessing pelvic alignment and movement

  • Aligning the joints of the pelvis and its neighbors – sacroiliac, pubic, hip socket, and L4 and L5 joints

  • Working with the shape of the pelvic bones and sacrum (called intra-osseous work)

  • Freeing the femoral nerve, artery, and vein in relation to the large intestine, psoas, and inguinal canal

  • Freeing the sciatic and superior gluteal nerves in relation to the gluteal and lateral rotator muscles

  • Organizing the pelvic organs’ relationships to the pelvic bones, muscles, and neurovascular structures

  • And more!

This class is open to all therapists who have a license to touch, including massage therapists, structural integration practitioners, physical therapists, chiropractors, doctors, and acupuncturists.
